NLD workshop for PS 372 parents and educators on February 3rd!!! Yeah!
ReplyDeleteOur child was diagnosed with NLD in September of 2009. We have since found it hard to find services that support us and our child. Not many providers and educators know about NLD. Some think it is a bogus term because our child is kind-hearted and doing well academically. They coin us "Park Slope" parents who overreact. After awhile, teachers and service providers see the "off" behavior of our child and recognize there may be something a little different. However, we find that few people buy into the need for support for our child. It has been frustrating. Sometimes we forget that we have to change our parenting style to help our child too. It is easy to think the NLD is not real at times. That is until we get to division!!! Or a new restaurant!!
ReplyDeleteWe have found that social skills classes help with her social awkwardness at times. Our speech-language therapist has been doing wonderful work on Executive Functioning and pragmatics too. However, it is so much work to remember to reinforce everything every day!!!
Big box graph paper seems to help with math! It is easier to line up the problems.
